Backup schemes for software
Differential
If you have an 'overnight' main backup routine, set Secure-IT to maintain a differential set of files. I.e. Secure-IT will keep a copy of only how to find and buy cheapest laptop those files that have changed since your last 'overnight main backup run. Once the overnight backup is run, Secure-IT sees to it that it doesn't clog up your backup folders with copies of files that have been backed up overnight.
Duplicate
This backup type keeps a complete mirror image of the folders specified. Use this to keep a copy of all your important data files. Use it as a substitute for an overnight backup (a complete hard disk crash will still re-installing your software, but at least your data files will be safe) or in addition to an overnight backup (recovering a single file or folder is so much faster than restoring from a tape).
Version Control
One for the techies this. Most version control systems have the main repository of source code in a database on a server. When a developer checks business out a program to work on, he gets a writable copy of the source code on his local work space. When he checks it in again, he is left with a read only copy of the source. Once it's checked in it's obviously secure on the server. But until then Secure-IT will make copies of the writable files in the folder structure specified in that Set. Once they're checked in, Secure-IT sees to it that it doesn't clog up your backup folders with copies of files that are read-only.
User controlled
Set your own options of Date/Time comparison, use of Archive and Read-Only bits and conditions for removing backup copies. change during the day. No more lengthy restores from last nights tape and then realising you made a major modification at 9am or created that important file this morning. Just tell Secure-IT where your important files are ('My Documents' is a good start) and where to keep copies of them (preferably on another pc on your workgroup or on your server) and it will do the rest.
